Inside you will find my latest family tree together with pictures of my family, old and new pictures of my hometown of Wotton-Under-Edge, pictures of old leaflets from Wotton, a Penny Red stamped envelope and contents dated 1855 and many other articles on one of my favourite subjects of local history. I have lived in Wotton all of my life and during those years I have rescued many of the things you will see from builders' skips and bonfires. My father died in 1992 and since then I have been researching my family tree. To my amazement the tree has now grown to over six thousand individuals and I have recently met up with cousins living locally who are part of my family which divided up over 150 years ago. I am now in touch with cousins from Yate, Scotland, USA, Australia and New Zealand and more. All of us have ancestors who came from Hawkesbury area, only about 5 miles from Wotton. One of my 13th great-grandfathers lived in Hawkesbury as far back as 1470. That means the family have travelled about one mile every one hundred years for me to be here in Wotton today. I think I can now safely say I am a local. Hawkesbury and Hillesley have family history web pages. If your family comes from around Wotton, Hawkesbury or Hillesley areas and you are interested in genealogy it may be worth clicking on their link on the links page to see if Hawkesbury Family History can help you. They have a band of dedicated members who would be only too glad to help you find your roots. |
